Within the framework of the programs developed by AERAS in the various fields of intervention, LERAS is interested in a continuum of activities covering the definition, implementation and evaluation of population health interventions. These activities are structured around the following axes:
Area 1: Designing and promoting health
LERAS Afrique is all about clear, well-defined, simple and effective actions that enable us to understand the determinants of people’s health. This involves designing tools to study population health problems, understanding field practices and finding appropriate responses.
Area 2: Implementation
Once we have defined and understood the issues at stake in health problems, and identified the factors for improving health, we need to implement them on given samples in order to assess their relevance. LERAS Afrique encourages research into the process of implementing public health policies.
Axis 3: Evaluate
LERAS Afrique constantly evaluates its interventions.
Our approach is population-based. We therefore target actions that have a high potential for improving the health status of populations. LERAS Afrique seeks to measure whether these actions have borne fruit. There is no shortage of indicators for measuring the health status of populations. However, they are little known and little used in the evaluation of public health interventions. Leras Afrique will help to inform public action planners about the biases of the health information system.
Health remains a major challenge in Africa, due to the lack of health coverage. LERAS Afrique is committed to supporting action-research initiatives to improve health in Benin and across the continent.
